Within the Division of Equipment (DOE) and under the direction of a Highway Mechanic Supervisor and/or Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic Lead worker, the incumbent will work in a shop and/or field environment to construct, inspect, diagnose, repair, and service various equipment used in the Department's fleet. The position requires completion of records and reports, use of computer equipment, and may include instructing or supervising helpers, apprentices, or other employees.
The incumbent must possess a valid Class C driver license and will assume responsibility for the safe use and handling of materials, tools, equipment and facilities at all times, wearing appropriate PPE. The role may involve working outdoors or traveling to field mechanic locations, and working in inclement weather, including severe cold or heat. Job assignments may include travel, rotation, shift changes, or varying work hours.
Special Requirements- Valid California Class C driver’s license with CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements or restrictions.
- Passage of drug screening prior to hiring.
- Unrestricted Class C driver’s license required for operating a state-owned or leased vehicle.
- Minimum qualifications verified prior to interview/appointment; educational transcripts may be required.
