Overview
Part‑time local building inspector for the Building Department of the City of Chicopee, MA. 19 hours per week, Salary: A09, Step 01-04 ($26.06–$34.34 per hour).
Schedule:
Flexible.
- Enforce all provisions of 780 CMR, 521 CMR, and city ordinances regarding construction, reconstruction, alterations, repair, demolition, removal, and installation of equipment.
- Act on questions regarding construction methods, materials, location, use, occupancy, and maintenance of buildings and structures, except as otherwise specifically provided for by statutory requirements or as provided for in 780 CMR.
- Receive applications and issue permits for construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, demolition, removal, or change in use or occupancy of buildings and structures.
- Inspect premises for which permits have been issued and enforce compliance with 780 CMR.
- Issue notices or orders to ensure compliance with 780 CMR.
- Inspect and investigate all zoning issues as assigned by the building commissioner.
- Assist permit applicants with application forms and requirements.
- Review permit applications and plans for completeness and code compliance.
- Issue building permits in a timely manner.
- Schedule and perform on‑site inspections of building projects.
- Schedule and perform section 110.7 periodic inspections of businesses and institutions.
- Keep up with relevant code changes.
- Maintain records and relevant information in a readily available manner.
- Provide customer service in person, by phone, by email, or other means.
- Perform similar or related work as required.
- Present yourself in a courteous and professional manner.
- Certified in accordance with MGL c 143, Section 3 for municipal building code enforcement officials.
- Approved to take local inspector exams (apply online).
- Familiarity with personal computers and Microsoft Office.
- Basic filing skills and blueprint reading.
- Customer service skills.
- Advanced math skills and basic writing skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
