Primary Position Objective
The position is an on-call role distinguished from an Academic Instructor by work that is on an as-needed basis. It includes prescribing individual and/or group lessons to assist students in mathematics and reading, and providing instruction to students in Reading, Mathematics, Workplace Communications, Career Success Standards (CSS), Health Education, Driver's Education, or HSD/HSE. It conducts and manages academic classes.
- Performs as an instructor, as needed in a substitute capacity, in a regular classroom setting, presenting instruction in Reading, Mathematics, Workplace Communications, CSS, Health Education, Driver's Education, or HSD/HSE.
- Promotes a positive classroom atmosphere and motivates students.
- Maintains discipline to support maximum learning.
- Establishes strong student/instructor rapport.
- Collaborates with career tech instructors to coordinate curriculum development.
- Utilizes available curricular resources at the Center.
- Prepares adequately for classroom activities.
- Maintains students’ personal folders, records data including test scores, evaluations, incident reports, achievement awards, and other relevant information; records attendance in CIS.
- Participates in ESPs (evaluation of student performance).
- Evaluates student employees’ academic performance and CSS progress; provides regular feedback.
- Works toward meeting performance management goals.
- Follows CDSS plan and Code of Conduct daily.
- Assists with quarterly graduation exercises.
- Complies with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and center policies and procedures.
- Maintains good housekeeping and safety practices in all areas.
- Demonstrates Serrato Corporation’s core values and operating principles.
- Models, mentors, and monitors appropriate Career Success Standards.
- Participation in PRH-mandated staff training is mandatory; failure to participate may result in disciplinary action up to termination.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
- Computer literacy with basic computer functions, email, internet, and basic programs such as Adobe Acrobat.
- High level of communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- High level of ability to motivate, inspire, and educate students effectively.
Minimum of one to two years related experience in education.
EducationBachelor’s degree in education from a four-year college or university and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates/Licenses/Registration- Valid State Driver’s License
- Certified to teach in state in which center is located (RO may waive if center is unable to hire certified teachers, but the candidate must pursue certification).
