Position: Cosmetology Teacher

Type: Unit A

Salary: $55,395 to $97,700 Per Year (Unit A Collective Bargaining Agreement)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide students with the knowledge and skills applicable to the care of hair, skin, and nails but do not necessarily prepare students for the state's Board or Cosmetology examinations.
  • Students gain experience in hair care, facials, and manicures; course topics may include human anatomy, sanitation and sterilization, chemistry, and bacteriology, with shop management and state regulations included.
  • Teach high school students academic, social, and life skills through the delivery of district instruction, curriculum, and assessment.
  • Prepare, administer, correct, and analyze student assessments.
  • Utilize the conclusions derived from assessment analysis in developing lessons.
  • Instruct students on rules of conduct and expected behaviors.
  • Manage class and other students wherever they may be located, whether on campus or at off‑campus events.
  • Identify students with academic issues and refer them to appropriate service providers.
  • Regularly inform parents or guardians of students’ academic performance and behavior.
  • Maintain records, attendance, and grades as required by the district.
  • Assign lessons and correct homework in a timely manner.
  • Instruct using various teaching methods such as lecture, demonstration, and audiovisual aids to supplement presentations.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver differentiated instruction consistent with district curriculum.
  • Maintain school and classroom discipline.
  • Meet or call parents to discuss student progress and issues.
  • Teach one or more subjects to students in either Middle or High school.
  • Provide timely feedback to students, parents, and guardians on evaluations.
  • Use appropriate techniques and strategies that promote critical, creative, and evaluative thinking skills.
  • Strive to maintain a learning environment that is both physically and emotionally safe.
  • Effectively and regularly communicate with fellow staff members and school administration.
  • Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Perform related duties such as sponsoring activities or student organizations, assisting students in selecting a course of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic problems.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal, school administration, or superintendent of schools.
Administration
  • Assist in the communication and enforcement of federal and state laws and regulations as well as district policies and procedures.
  • Work cooperatively with school administration, staff, and special education.
1. School/Community Relations
  • Respect students, parents, guardians, and the community.
  • Assist parents with questions and concerns.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and guardians.
  • Respect and embrace students of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
2. Operations
  • Assist in the protection of students and property.
  • Assist Principal or Vice Principal in fire and other emergency drills.
  • Assist the Principal or Vice Principal in managing students, e.g., dismissal, field trips.
3. Professional
  • Maintain a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic.
  • Participate in district professional development.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Education (any secondary license).
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience (preferred).
  • Bachelor degree preferred.
  • Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
