Job DescriptionHampden Charter School of Science (HCSS) is a top-performing public charter school serving grades 6–12, known for excellence in STEM education, college preparation, and community engagement. We are seeking a Robotics Team Coach for the 2026–2027 academic year to lead and mentor students in robotics design, engineering, programming, teamwork, and competition preparation.
Position OverviewThe Robotics Team Coach will lead students in robotics-related STEM activities and competitions, helping them develop technical skills, problem‑solving abilities, creativity, and teamwork. The coach will organize structured practices, guide students through robot design and programming, prepare teams for competitions, and promote a culture of innovation, perseverance, and collaboration. This position requires 175 hours of practice‑based training, plus participation in three competitions and one family/community STEM event during the year.
Responsibilities- Plan and lead two structured robotics practices per week, ensuring a total of 175 training hours are completed.
- Reschedule sessions if absent to meet the 175‑hour requirement.
- Maintain at least 90% student attendance and active engagement.
- Teach and support students in robotics design, building, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and competition strategy.
- Prepare students for robotics competitions through practice challenges, trial runs, teamwork activities, and project refinement.
- Provide timely communication with families and school leadership about practices, schedules, competitions, and student expectations.
- Supervise students responsibly at all practices, competitions, and events.
- Lead the robotics team in three official competitions during the school year.
- Organize at least one family/community STEM showcase to highlight student projects, robotics demonstrations, and team achievements.
- Promote professionalism, sportsmanship, safety, teamwork, and student leadership.
- Report directly to the STEM Team Coordinator.
- Carry out other duties as assigned by the CAO related to STEM program leadership.
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, technology, computer science, education, or a related STEM field preferred.
- Experience with robotics programs, robotics competitions, engineering design, coding, or STEM coaching highly desirable.
- Experience mentoring middle school or high school students preferred.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to guide students through hands‑on projects, competition preparation, and collaborative teamwork.
- Ability to model professionalism, patience, safety, and positive team culture.
- Commitment to fostering equity, inclusion, creativity, and student confidence in STEM.
Stipend: $5,000–$7,500 (covers 175 hours of practices, participation in competitions, and one family/community STEM event)
Performance Bonuses:
- Top 3 competition placement: $2,500 bonus for Head Coach
- Top 10 competition placement: $1,500 bonus for Head Coach
