Title: Substitute Educational Support Professional

Reports To: Building Principal
Objective: The Substitute Educational Support Professional – Day-to-Day assists the classroom teacher in delivering the district curriculum in multiple ways that increase student learning and achievement. The Substitute Paraprofessional – Day-to-Day works up to three days a week by selecting their assignment via the substitute management software program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Work with small groups of students
- Instruct students on rules of conduct and expected behaviors
- Support class objectives and outlines that align with the district approved curriculum
- Assist in preparations of the classroom materials
- Assist in the delivery of differentiated instruction in an appropriate manner consistent with district curriculum
- Assist students with activities of daily living
- Works independently by appropriately using the directions given by the classroom teacher
- Builds on strengths and acts on suggestions in areas needing improvement
- Demonstrates sound judgment
- Maintains effective, professional working relationships with others (e.g., paraprofessionals, teachers, staff, parents, guardians, administrators, etc.)
- Resolves conflict well, and seeks assistance when appropriate
- Under the direction of the classroom teacher, strives to maintain a learning environment that is both physically and emotionally safe
- As appropriate, assists in communication and enforcement of federal and state laws and regulations, as well as district policies and procedures
- Assist in the protection of students and property
- Assist the classroom teacher in fired and other emergency drills
- Assist the classroom teacher in the management of students (e.g., dismissal, field trips, etc.)
- Maintain a high level of personal integrity, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic
- Practice discretion and maintain confidentiality
- Participate in professional development as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Must be trained or willing to be trained by the Chicopee Public schools in the knowledge and performance areas identified for the specific assignment (e.g., Responsive Classroom Techniques, Implementation of a Student Behavior Plan, Use of a communication Board, Physical Restraint and Verbal De-escalation Techniques).

- Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, adding machines, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Must be able to stand, crouch, and bend over for a long period of time at intervals throughout the day
