The City of Chicopee's Department of Public Works / Engineering Department is hiring an Assistant City Engineer. This is a professional engineering and administrative position that requires strong engineering skills and personnel management both in the office and in the field.
ResponsibilitiesAssists the City Engineer with department operations and oversees the management of citywide infrastructure construction programs, coordinating efforts with contractors, developers, City/State/Federal Departments, public and private utilities, ensuring construction efforts are within specification tolerances and contract plans.
Leads the design of in-house projects for roads, site work, utilities, and other infrastructure improvement projects, creating plans, specifications, and cost estimates, following sound engineering principles and City/State standards.
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
- Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience in civil engineering, construction, or a closely related field.
- Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering with minimum ten (10) years of experience in engineering and design of roads and stormwater systems may be considered.
- MA Class D Driver's License – Required.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics, elementary algebra, and plane geometry.
- Knowledge of intermediate to advanced engineering field surveying principles and practices, equipment types and uses.
- Advanced knowledge of terminology, symbols, codes, and standard abbreviations in civil engineering.
- Ability to code and arrange data according to a given order or procedure.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical literature, laws, regulations, blueprints, plot plans, topographic maps, etc.
- Ability to use appropriate formulae in determining exact locations and measurements.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and requirements; working knowledge of Federal and State regulations.
- Knowledge of public bidding procedures, preparation of bid packages, and bid review.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Hydro
CAD, GIS, Microsoft Word, and Excel. - Knowledge of metal detectors, measuring tape, survey equipment, drafting equipment and techniques.
