Schedule: Mon – Fri 7:00AM – 3:30PM

MA Class B CDL License, Class A CDL License Preferred

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Water Division is hiring a Water System Maintenance Worker. Under supervision/direction, the Water System Maintenance Worker will work with personnel, equipment, and resources to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled manual work in the construction, installation, operation, and maintenance of a water system including water mains, service connections, hydrants, meters, and valves.

In this role, one must be available for emergency work in the event of a water main failure (nights, weekends, and holidays), and additionally may be required to work Emergency Night Stand-by Duty.

• Install and repair water mains and appurtenances.
• Install and repair water service connections.
• Operate, clean, and maintain tapping and drilling machines.
• Operate, clean, and maintain pumping equipment used in the installation and maintenance of water mains and service connections.
• Repairs trenches and excavations by patching with bituminous and concrete materials.
• Washes and cleans all motor vehicles, as directed by foreman or other supervising authority.
• Maintains material stock on utility truck as directed by the supervising authority.
• Other duties as assigned per the full job description.

• Massachusetts Class B CDL License - Required
• Massachusetts Class A CDL License – Preferred
• Minimum (1) year of related experience and/or training or a combination of education and experience/training
• Working knowledge of water treatment and systems operations
• Working knowledge of a wide variety of hand tools, air tools and hydraulic tools
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
