OPEE Junior Counselor

Department: DPW - Recreation - OPEE Summer Adventures

Employment Status:
Chapter 7 Ordinance, Non-Exempt, Seasonal (Hours As Needed/Varies)

Salary: $15.75/Hour

Schedule:

Mon - Fri, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM

Certifications/Licenses

Required:

Massachusetts Class D Driver's License (with insurable driving record), Certifications in Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D.

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopees Recreation Division - OPEE Summer Adventures is hiring an OPEE Junior Counselor who will plan, direct, and supervise children. Oversee all activities and work with other staff members to aid in all facets of the program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE
  • Group supervision of campers with attention to program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character and skill development.
  • Be concerned for the social adjustment of each camper.
  • Help campers plan, carry out and evaluate projects and activities.
  • Take turns with other counselors for various responsibilities.
  • Teach or assist with program and encourage camper participation.
  • Exhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, and relationships with other staff that serve as a beneficial model to campers.
  • Promote camper participation in all activities.
  • Schedule all activities and programming prior to the sessions beginning.
  • Set a good example in all you do at the program; it is a fun learning experience for all.
  • Work with the directors and other staff to iron out difficulties with facilities, programs, and children.
  • Help develop, implement and evaluate the program.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Massachusetts Class D Driver's License (with insurable driving record) - Required
  • Certifications in Adult/Pediatric First Aid and C.P.R./A.E.D.

    - Required
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.

    - Preferred
  • Age 18+ (but can be 17, if they have gone through our Leaders in Training program)
  • One (1) year of experience at OPEE or comparable camp - Required
  • Experience working with the youth - Preferred
