Overview
Bus Monitor – Chicopee Public Schools Transportation, Chicopee, Massachusetts. This job is also posted in Chicopee Public School District. Starting date:

Non-Union Salary Schedule.
Reports to:
Director of Special Education and Transportation Manager.
- Ensure the safe loading and unloading of students to and from destinations, including operation of specialized equipment for attending to students with special needs (wheelchair lifts, secure tie downs, toddler/infant seats, and seat belts).
- Greet and assist each student as they enter and exit the bus.
- Survey exterior perimeter of vehicle as students enter and exit to ensure students have cleared the bus safety zone.
- Monitor daily school bus activities to ensure proper student conduct and adherence to disciplinary controls.
- Assist to fasten student seat belts and ensure they remain fastened.
- Assist and follow instructions of the vehicle driver; communicate operational, safety, and dangerous issues to supervisor or appropriate authority in emergencies.
- Write and complete incident reports.
- Communicate and interact with children and adults with a variety of handicaps in a caring and compassionate manner.
- Assist in the evacuation of the bus in emergency situations.
- Sit for extended periods and endure various road conditions.
- Wear the prescribed safety vest while on duty.
- Do not eat, drink, or distribute food to students.
- Use cell phone only in work-related situations or emergencies.
- Do not engage in personal conversation with students, drivers, or parents.
- Practice discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent is desirable.
- Experience in youth work and/or working with children with special needs is desirable.
Minimum Qualifications to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Physical Requirements:
Able to exert up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push or move objects, including the human body. Requires climbing, walking, standing to a significant degree. - Data Conception:
Ability to compare and judge observable characteristics of data, people or things. Requires good eyesight and hearing to observe students and surroundings. - Interpersonal Communications:
Ability to convey information and give instructions or directions. - Language:
Ability to read, speak and write. - Intelligence:
Ability to apply logical thinking to define problems and perceive danger or situations. - Verbal Aptitude:
Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively. - Motor Coordination:
Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately. - Manual Dexterity:
Adequate eye/hand/foot coordination. - Physical Communication:
Ability to talk and hear; able to communicate via telephone.
Position Type: Part-Time
Salary: up to $18.21 Per Hour
