HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE WORKER

Full-Time (40 Hours)

Salary:
Grade 5L, Step 05 - $18.31 - $21.00

Schedule:

Mon-Fri – 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM

Required Licenses: MA Class B CDL License and MA Class A CDL License (must be obtained within one year of hire)

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works – Highway Division is hiring a Highway Maintenance Worker who is responsible for maintaining roadways, sidewalks, lawns, trees, drains, sewer lines and public infrastructures such as buildings.

• Perform construction maintenance work on streets, sidewalks, tree belts, and other public property.
• Excavate, brace, sheet pile, and grade.
• Fill potholes and cave‑ins.
• Maintain, clean, and construct sewers, catch basins, drains, and manholes.
• Clear overgrowth.
• Participate in snow and ice removal operations.
• Perform “Flag” duties at job sites on occasion.
• Erect manholes and catch basins.
• Lay sewer pipe and house waste connections.
• Assist in forestry operations as needed.
• Operate air compressor and jackhammer.
• Perform general labor duties as required.
• Drive highway maintenance vehicles and complete daily vehicle maintenance logs.
• Abide by City of Chicopee Health & Safety Policies and Procedures.

• MA Class B CDL License – Required.
• MA Class A CDL License – Required (must be obtained within one year of hire).
• Willingness to perform heavy manual labor.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Knowledge of and experience in performing a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and manual tasks.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
