Truck Driver - Hiker​/Vehicle Transporter​/CDL - Part Time

Position Summary

Penske Truck Leasing seeks highly motivated and qualified applicants to fill the unique position of Hiker (Vehicle Transporter/Truck Driver). This role is responsible for vehicle delivery and returning vehicles to Penske locations and Penske customers. Primarily, it moves box trucks up to 26’ and, for CDL Class A drivers, includes tractor and trailer movement. The position may also assist the service department in delivering parts and equipment.

This is a casual/on‑call part‑time truck driving job ideal for licensed CDL Class B or CDL Class A drivers seeking supplemental income and looking to work anywhere from 0 to 25 hours a week based on business needs. The position is located at Penske’s facility at 30 Fuller Road, Chicopee, MA.

• Follow appropriate safety procedures while driving trucks to destinations at Penske locations or customer locations
• Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order; report any issues to the location manager
• Obtain receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles
• Perform other projects and tasks as assigned by the supervisor

• 2 years of driving experience
• 2 years of a clean DMV motor vehicle record
• Valid Class B CDL required; applicants must be domiciled in the U.S. and licensed in their state of residence
• CDL Class A license preferred
• Ability to read and follow written instructions
• Ability to work independently, strong customer service skills, organizational skills, and a positive attitude
• English language proficiency required by federal law
• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
• Compliance with DOT regulations, including maintaining a current driver qualification file with required MVR checks, DOT Physical, Safety Performance History records, and DOT drug screening within 30 days of start
• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation and drug screening

• Must see and hear; vision includes close, distance, peripheral, depth perception and focus adjustment
• Must move frequently: stand, walk, sit, use hands; lift/move up to 50 lbs (23 kg) regularly, occasionally up to 100 lbs (45 kg)
• Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle and safely enter/exit the vehicle and rear cargo area

This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation or designated as safety‑sensitive by the company, and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required. Associates must accept responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others.

$20.75 – $20.25 per hour
