Summary of PositionAn Inside Sales Representative is responsible for assisting customers and contractors by providing quotes and product information, whether in person, over the phone, or through electronic communication such as a website or email, while maintaining company standards of excellent customer service. The role requires excellent product knowledge and adherence to company sales and reporting processes. The representative must also foster a culture of safety, accountability, and cleanliness, ensuring proper merchandising of products, and will report directly to the Retail Manager.
Responsibilities- Respond to customer inquiries regarding product selection, order placement, pricing requests, delivery and installation scheduling, and provide follow‑ups as needed.
- Listen to and resolve customer service complaints or requests when appropriate, seeking assistance from the Retail or General Manager if necessary.
- Code and input customer orders, pricing information, and additional data into the point‑of‑sale computer system, ensuring accuracy of invoices, work orders, and sales tickets.
- Operate and balance the cash register daily.
- Research credits, returns, and delinquent payments as needed.
- Assist customers in purchasing and delivering special‑order products by utilizing supplier catalog information (pricing, colors, sizes, availability, etc.).
- Cooperate with the credit department to obtain customer credit information and aid in collecting delinquent accounts.
- Maintain inventory, product displays, and pricing labels within the assigned area in accordance with merchandising standards.
- Transport merchandise to specified areas for customer pickup or delivery.
- Actively seek to minimize inventory shrinkage and protect the store from shoplifting and internal theft.
- Collaborate with Outside Sales Representatives to ensure customer satisfaction, including responding to inquiries about orders and product pricing.
- Develop and learn estimating skills to provide material take‑offs for construction projects.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and contractors.
- Engage in ongoing learning of sales techniques and industry knowledge through company training programs, focusing on residential, rural, industrial, and commercial construction.
- Observe all safety procedures to prevent injury, attend periodic safety meetings, and recommend safety improvements.
- Perform other assigned job duties such as cutting glass or Plexiglas, mixing paint, or cutting keys.
- Previous sales experience and knowledge of building materials and the construction industry, while not required, is desired.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with customers and contractors.
- Proficient with the company point‑of‑sale system (Bistrack), Microsoft Office programs (Word & Excel), and other third‑party software at an intermediate level.
- Strong organizational, mathematical, and computer skills.
- Ability to provide professional customer service in a team‑oriented environment.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- One year of related work experience preferred.
- Acceptable driving record and a valid state‑issued driver’s license (Missouri locations require a Class E license).
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Successful applicants will undergo pre‑employment drug testing, background check, and driver history checks in accordance with applicable law.
- Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and listen.
- Requires standing and walking most of the day.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and frequently lift or move up to 10–25 pounds and occasionally up to 50–100 pounds.
- Subject to typical showroom/warehouse environment and outdoor locations with temperature and weather variations.
Job Compensation: $15 – $20 per hour. Pay is determined by region, experience, education, licenses, and certifications.
