Maintenance Technician
Position Summary:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment throughout the New IBC Blow Molding and Reconditioning operations. This position plays a critical role in minimizing equipment downtime, maximizing production efficiency, and ensuring the safe and reliable operation of all plant equipment. The Maintenance Technician is expected to troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated systems while maintaining compliance with all company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
- Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment according to established maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions using technical manuals, electrical schematics, PLC software, and diagnostic testing instruments.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and vacuum conveying systems.
- Repair and maintain extrusion blow molding machines, grinders, conveyors, palletizers, leak testers, trimming equipment, and associated auxiliary equipment.
- Replace worn or defective components including motors, bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, pumps, valves, sensors, switches, cylinders, and drives.
- Install, align, adjust, and calibrate new or existing production equipment.
- Perform emergency repairs to minimize production downtime.
Electrical & Automation
- Troubleshoot electrical control systems, motor controls, VFDs, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
- Diagnose and repair control circuits, relays, sensors, photo eyes, proximity switches, HMI interfaces, and emergency stop circuits.
- Assist with PLC troubleshooting and minor programming modifications (Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens preferred).
- Install and troubleshoot machine wiring and electrical components while following NFPA 70E electrical safety standards.
Mechanical Systems
- Repair and maintain gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, compressors, blowers, fans, chain drives, sprockets, bearings, couplings, and mechanical assemblies.
- Perform precision alignment of motors and rotating equipment.
- Lubricate machinery and replace mechanical wear components before failure occurs.
- Perform minor machining, fabrication, cutting, drilling, and welding as necessary.
Hydraulic & Pneumatic Systems
- Troubleshoot hydraulic cylinders, pumps, valves, manifolds, hoses, and pressure systems.
- Maintain pneumatic systems including regulators, solenoids, air cylinders, air dryers, compressors, and valves.
- Identify leaks and ensure systems are operating efficiently.
Facility Maintenance
- Perform routine facility maintenance including:
- Plumbing repairs
- Lighting replacement
- Door and lock repair/replacement
- Wall and floor repairs
- HVAC assistance
- General building maintenance
- Compressed air system maintenance
- Water system maintenance
- Maintain housekeeping in maintenance areas, shops, and work spaces.
Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct routine equipment inspections to identify potential failures before they occur.
- Complete preventative maintenance work orders on schedule.
- Maintain lubrication schedules for all assigned equipment.
- Recommend improvements to increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
- Assist in root cause analysis for repetitive equipment failures.
Documentation
- Accurately document maintenance activities using Shop Logix, maintenance logs, work orders, and downtime reporting systems.
- Record parts used, repairs completed, labor hours, and equipment history.
- Submit Purchase Requests for replacement parts, supplies, and maintenance materials.
- Maintain organized maintenance records and equipment documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Strictly follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Follow OSHA regulations, NFPA 70E electrical safety standards, and all company safety policies.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Report unsafe conditions immediately.
Continuous Improvement
- Support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Assist engineering and production teams during equipment installations, upgrades, and process improvements.
- Participate in equipment reliability projects and process optimization efforts.
- Cross-train with other maintenance technicians to support plant operations.
Other Duties
- Respond to maintenance calls during production shifts as required.
- Assist production personnel with machine startups and changeovers.
- Train operators on basic equipment care and preventative maintenance practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications Education
