Heathcare Engineer for Veteran’s Affairs (VA)

The position serves as a Project Engineer aligned under the Facilities Management service at the Chillicothe, Ohio VA Medical Center. This position performs project planning, produces designs, manages designs, manages construction, and provides construction administration for Minor Construction Projects, Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) Projects, Station Level Projects, and Leases at an assigned medical center and associated Community Based Outpatient Care(CBOC) locations.

It is a position in Federal Civil Service, so benefits such as a pension, 11 holidays + 4 hrs annual and sick leave accrued each two weeks (initially), and a 5% match for a 401k come with it. There is also a special pay table we have as engineers in the VA.

Just north of Ohio’s historic first Capital and Listed # on the National Register of Historic Places, pastoral Chillicothe VA Medical Center was the first Veterans’ Bureau operated hospital, constructed in 1923 and opening in 1924 on the grounds of former WWI-era Camp Sherman and next to the scenic National Monument and UNESCO World Heritage Site “Mound City Group” of American Indian earthen works.

Additional buildings were constructed over the subsequent decades with frequent modernizations to utilize best practices beginning in the 1940’s through today. In Planning and Design specifically, you work as a healthcare facilities project manager, guiding projects through programming and development, design, and construction, ranging from HVAC systems to telecommunications.

Chillicothe itself is a walkable and bikable city located just ~1 hour away from Columbus, Dayton, & Hocking Hills, and only 1.5 hours from Cincinnati. In town recreation includes parks, the Downtown Historic District, festivals such as the Feast of the Flowering Moon, the Tecumseh Outdoor Drama, Worthington House, UNESCO World Heritage Site of Mound City, and so much more!
