Patient Companion - PT Nights - Behavioral Health

Overview

The Patient Companion observes assigned patients while maintaining a continuous safe and therapeutic environment. The role is to provide continual direct observation at the bedside to ensure safety from falls and/or risk of injury to self or others. Monitor the patient’s verbal and behavioral expressions related to any idea or intention of hurting oneself or others, thoughts of leaving without physician’s permission, or to promote the safety of a patient while hospitalized.

The Patient Companion has access to confidential patient information and works under the direct supervision of an RN and under the indirect supervision of the Director of Critical Care and Psychiatric Services.

• Provide continual direct observation at the bedside to ensure safety from falls or risk of injury to self or others.
• Monitor patients’ verbal and behavioral expressions related to self-harm, harm to others, or elopement.
• Maintain a confidential and safe environment and report safety concerns to the supervising RN.
• Adhere to supervision requirements with the RN and the Director of Critical Care and Psychiatric Services.

• CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification prior to working as a Patient Companion
• Code Violet training (biannually)

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

• High School Diploma or GED

• 1-2 years of experience in healthcare
