Job Description
The Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is a registered nurse who has advanced education and clinical preparation in forensic examination of victims of sexual assault. The SANE coordinates and performs the forensic examination for patients of all ages including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics including inmates. This individual collaborates with other medical professionals in developing, implementing, and the ongoing evaluation of an emergency service plan of care.
Nursing care delivered with be in accordance with the Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the Ohio Department of Health Sexual Assault Protocol.
- Must arrive to hospital within one (1) hour of being called for a case
- Primary caregiver - completing patient care orders according to protocols and appropriate nursing care
- Documentation of initial and ongoing assessments according to established standards of care
- Forensic Evidence Collection
- Colposcope operation
- Photo documentation of injuries
- Administration of medicines in accordance with current CDC guidelines and recommendations
- Identification of injuries related to sexual and physical abuse
- Communication of pertinent clinical information to the physician and other members of the interdisciplinary team and indicated
- Education related to treatment plan, interventions, and discharge information including follow up and referrals

Education:
Graduate of an Accredited Program in Nursing; BSN required within three (3) years of hire - Preferred Education:
Adult/Adolescent and Pediatric Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Training - Required Certification: RN
- Registered Nurse with current Ohio license - Required Experience:
6 months

All shifts will require every other weekend hours.
