Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Administers nursing care within the scope of practice under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed physician. Responsibilities may include administering oxygen, applying sterile dressings, inserting catheters, and reinserting gastrotomy tubes. Performs suctioning, irrigating of wounds, and collecting specimens. Assists physicians with physical exams, treatments, and laboratory tests. Provides emergency assistance by administering first aid, performing CPR, and restraining patients as needed.
Administers controlled and non-controlled medications in oral, rectal, topical, or injectable form. Maintains medication accountability records and observes, documents, and reports patient conditions. Prepares and maintains related reports and records. Provides general nursing, direct care, and programming assistance. Takes patient vital signs and assists with personal grooming, hygiene, bathing, and daily living activities. Administers topical ointments and solutions as directed.
Repositions patients and responds to patient alarms. Makes medical appointments and escorts patients while assisting with recreational activities. Provides one-on-one and group activities as per intervention stated in the treatment plan. Offers assistance and training to lower-level direct care staff in providing general unskilled nursing care. Participates in various meetings, including staff conferences and interdisciplinary team meetings. Orders medication and medical supplies as necessary.
Cleans the nursing station and medication room, ensuring proper sterilization and restocking of equipment. Performs clerical tasks such as answering phones and filing as required.
