RN - Correctional Health

Registered Nurse (RN General)

Provides professional nursing care to patients in a correctional facility. Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress of patients. Makes nursing rounds and takes and records vital signs. Prepares and administers prescribed medications and treatment plans. Monitors restrained patients and provides immediate medical attention to emergencies. Counsels patients regarding the need for medical referrals. Participates in staff development and education.

Reviews care plans written by staff and trains and orients new employees. Responsible for all health care of bedridden patients. Organizes and oversees emergency response teams. Acts as lead worker in charge during assigned shifts. Assists physicians in diagnostic health evaluations. Performs clerical tasks such as documenting treatments and medications. Maintains inventory of medical supplies and equipment. Arranges for out-patient clinic appointments and medical examinations.

Performs administrative tasks and serves as a liaison within the organization. Demonstrates knowledge of professional nursing procedures and regulations. Possesses skills in operating medical equipment. Ability to write meaningful and concise reports. Ability to gather and classify information effectively. Demonstrates physical fitness as required for the job.
