We are seeking a Lab Support Technician to join our AMT R&D organization, fully on‑site in Chillicothe, IL. This is a newly added position responsible for managing the day‑to‑day operations of the Advanced Materials Characterization Lab. You will play a critical role in enabling safe, efficient, and reliable laboratory execution in direct support of research and development programs, working alongside a team of 15 total members with daily interaction with fellow technicians and R&D personnel.
KeyContributions & Responsibilities
- Manage laboratory operations including sample preparation, equipment coordination, replenishment of consumables, and workflow prioritization.
- Operate laboratory equipment including abrasive saws, metallographic mounting presses, automatic metallographic polishers, microscopes, and hardness testing instruments.
- Maintain clear process documentation and drive lab execution velocity while preserving quality standards.
- Champion safe work practices and ensure full compliance with all laboratory safety requirements.
- Serve as a primary communication link between the lab and AMT R&D personnel, ensuring customer needs are clearly understood and consistently met.
- Track and resolve operational issues with attention to detail and strong follow‑through.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in lab processes, organization, and responsiveness.
- You will be part of a 15‑person team with daily interaction with fellow technicians and AMT R&D personnel across research and development programs.
- This is a fully on‑site, lab‑based role in Chillicothe, IL.
- Associate’s degree with 2+ years of relevant experience; or High School diploma/GED with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Relevant internship experience (of a few months or more) may be counted toward the required years of experience.
- Strong customer focus and service mindset.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated commitment to working safely in a laboratory environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and ability to quickly learn lab‑specific software.
- Prior laboratory, technical support, or operations experience is preferred.
- Clear, professional communicator — both written and verbal — with the ability to interface effectively across technical and non‑technical teams.
- Self‑motivated and reliable with strong follow‑through on tasks and commitments.
