You will serve as a Biological Science Technician at the Hopewell Culture National Historic Park in Chillicothe, Ohio.

You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/29/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.

Minimum

Qualification Requirements

To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level:

  • Specialized Experience Requirement: you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience:
    • Collecting, recording, and organizing biological or natural resource field or laboratory data using established procedures;
    • Assisting with natural resource monitoring, inventory, restoration, research, or management activities; AND
    • Preparing or maintaining technical records, reports, databases, or other documentation supporting biological or ecological projects.

You must include hours per week worked.

-OR-

  • Education
    :
    Successful completion of at least 1 full year of graduate education in an accredited educational institution (18 semester hour or 27 quarter hours) directly related to this position. Examples of directly related education are biology, botany, range science, forestry, ecology, environmental science, zoology, fisheries, animal husbandry, natural resource management or other directly related fields.

You must include transcripts.

  • Combination of education and experience
    . 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and half a year of directly related graduate level education.

To qualify for this position at the GS-08 grade level:
  • Independently organizing and conducting biological resource monitoring, inventory, restoration, or research activities;
  • Evaluating field conditions, interpreting biological or ecological data, and recommending actions based on established guidance; AND
  • Maintaining specialized field or laboratory equipment and preparing technical reports, databases, or project documentation.

You must include hours per week worked.

To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level:
  • Specialized Experience Requirement
    : you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-08 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience:
    • Planning and conducting biological resource monitoring, inventory, restoration, or research projects involving complex technical assignments;
    • Interpreting biological or ecological data and recommending management actions based on field observations and analysis; AND
    • Preparing technical reports, statistical summaries, or research documentation and adapting or developing procedures to improve biological resource management activities.

You must include hours per week worked.

  • Education
    :
    Successful completion of two full years (36 semester/54 quarter hours) of graduate level education or a master's degree with a major study directly related to this position. Examples of directly related education are biology, botany, range science, forestry, ecology, environmental science, zoology, fisheries, animal husbandry, natural resource management or other directly related fields.

-OR-

  • Combination of education and experience: 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and half a year of directly related graduate level education.
