Position located at Ohio University Chillicothe Campus, Chillicothe, Ohio. This position is open to the public; current Ohio University AFSCME 1699 bargaining unit employees will be considered first.

Job Summary: Under general direction from department head or designee, performs groundskeeping and maintenance repair duties to keep grounds, buildings, and related equipment maintained. Adheres to all OSHA and/or Ohio University required safety guidelines.

• Minor repairs & replacement of doors, windows, walls, steps, floors, roofs, gutters; installs screens & shelving.
• Maintain, alter, and repair surface finishes: carpet, padding, vinyl floor tile, vinyl base, wallpaper, etc.
• Mix, pour, lay, and finish concrete; repair and replace concrete sidewalks and other structures; lay bricks, blocks and tiles; set markers and make forms.
• Paint window frames, tables, chairs; paint building interiors, sheds, piping, valves; prepare surfaces for plastering; assist with repairing walls, floors, and other building parts; patch concrete.

• Maintain, alter, and repair all types of surface finishes (carpet, padding, vinyl floor tile, vinyl base, wallpaper, etc.).

• Mixture, pouring, laying, and finishing concrete; repairing and replacing concrete sidewalks, floors, walls, steps; laying bricks, blocks, and tile; setting marker stakes and making forms.

• Paint window frames, tables, chairs; painting of building interiors, sheds, piping, valves, rooms, and equipment; prepare surfaces for plastering; mix plaster; assist with repairing walls, floors, and other building parts.

• HVAC and Controls:
  Routine installation, maintenance, repair of heating, air conditioning, refrigeration equipment; replace filters, belts, sheaves, motors, shafts, bearings; clean filters, louvers, coils, fans; coordinate with supervisors.
• Electrical:
  Minor electrical repair (bulbs, ballasts, lighting fixtures, switches, relays, fuses, breakers, outlets, security devices, smoke detectors); assist with inspecting & replacing equipment.
• Locksmith:
  Routine maintenance and installation of all types of locks and hardware.
• Plumbing:
  Maintain, replace, minor installation, and repair of plumbing equipment and fixtures (water and steam lines, sewer pipes, plumbing fixtures, pumps, regulators, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, bathtubs, piping).
• Sheet Metal:
  Routine installation, fabrication, & repair of metal roofs and related fixtures, fittings, and parts.
• Shop Cleanup and Organization:
  Perform custodial related duties (deliver materials and equipment; clean shop area).
• Life Safety:
  Maintain, test, install, and repair fire alarm systems and components.

• Mowing and Trimming:
  Mows and edges lawns; weeds and waters lawns and flower beds; trims shrubs.
• Site Cleanup:
  Keep grounds clean; remove papers & debris; operate vacuum sweeper when necessary.
• Snow and Ice:
  Remove snow and ice with hand shovel and broom; apply salt; operate power snow shovel when necessary.
• Grounds Equipment and General Tool Maintenance:
  Routine maintenance of grounds equipment; lubricate and maintain related equipment; perform highly skilled mechanical maintenance and repairs of small engines.
• Fertilization:
  Fertilize lawns, trees, shrubs; plant trees, shrubs, other plants; seed and sod lawns; spray to control insects and disease.

• Work Order System:
  Complete necessary documentation for Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Perform other related duties as required.

• Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in safety areas, turf and shrub, snow removal, and building maintenance.
• Basic knowledge in skilled craft areas listed above.
• Dexterity in using hands for basic skills with hand and/or power tools.
• Ability to read and write common vocabulary in sentence structure.
• Math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide whole…
