Overall Duties

Coordinates activities throughout the district to address barriers and to coordinate district and community services for the benefit of McKinney‑Vento students and families within Chillicothe City Schools.

Qualifications

Current teaching or administrative license, or current social work or counseling credentials, or minimum 10 years of experience in social work or counseling.

Basic Functions And General Duties (Illustrative Only)

The following is a list of specific duties which are considered to be essential functions of this job. The list is not exhaustive, nor will all of the duties specified be required at all times. The person who occupies this position is expected to assume any/all duties assigned by the Superintendent or the employee's immediate supervisor, irrespective of whether such duties are specifically included in this list.

All activities will be conducted under the general supervision of the staff member assigned to the activity.

Specific Duties
  • Identification and documentation of students that meet the criteria of Homeless under McKinney‑Vento guidelines.
  • Prepare required state and district reports for state and district identification and services for students including annual report of activities in the program.
  • Monitors and assures that educational supports are in place for students identified as homeless in the district including elementary homeless tutor program and middle school and high school intervention services.
  • Serves on community committees for the benefit of students and families in the district such as Love Inc., Continuum of Care, etc.
  • Participates and encourages others participation in community events for the homeless in Chillicothe such as the annual count and A Night Without a Home activities.
  • Coordinates efforts between the district and the community to garner the needed resources for students and families that may become homeless.
  • Enters homeless data and assures its accuracy in the district reporting system (DASL).
  • Counsels students and families that are homeless or in‑risk of becoming homeless
  • Works with districts around Chillicothe to secure the needed transportation to student's home school when this is viable in accordance with McKinney Vento regulations.
  • Acts as the Homeless Liaison for Chillicothe City School District.
  • Works with the district Director of Grants to communicate the regulations and the needs of Homeless students and families in the area/region.
  • Attends all required professional development and state meetings for the Mckinney Vento program.
  • Provides professional development training to district staff and area schools on the rules and regulations of homeless students protected under the McKinney Vento Act.
  • All other duties as assigned from the Director of Grants.

  • Knowledge of McKinney Vento regulations
  • Ability and skill in working with community agencies and members
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use technology to complete daily and assigned tasks appropriate for the position.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with staff
