- Electrician – $39.09 to $42.51 per hour.
- Plumber – $35.57 to $38.70 per hour.
- Carpenter – $33.82 to $36.78 per hour.
- Cabinetmaker Instructor – $35.18 to $38.23 per hour.
Additional allowances may apply (Inmate Training Differential, CSSDA additional pay).
OrganisationCorrectional Service Canada’s Special Operating Agency, Correctional Officer Training and Employment (CORCAN), provides safe incarceration and offers employability and training services to offenders across Canada. Positions are located in correctional environments (institutional or community based) throughout the country.
ResponsibilitiesEmployees will deliver vocational training and skill development to offenders, facilitate workplace instruction, and support project execution in the construction trades.
Qualifications Education- Carpenter – valid Provincial or Inter‑provincial Journeyman Certificate in the province of work.
- Cabinetmaker Instructor – valid certificate of qualification as a Cabinetmaker, Industrial Woodworker or equivalent.
- Plumber – valid Provincial or Inter‑provincial Journeyman Certificate.
- Electrician – valid Provincial or Inter‑provincial Journeyman Certificate.
- English – Essential.
- French – Essential.
- Bilingual (BBB/BBB) – Preferred.
- Motivate and instruct learners in relevant trade skills.
- Effective oral and written communication.
- Action‑oriented, effective interpersonal relationships, strong values and ethics, thoughtful decision‑making.
- Instruction in a construction‑related educational environment.
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and construction specifications.
- Project scheduling and use of AutoCAD, MS Project or similar software.
- Estimating materials, equipment and job cost.
- Residential construction, masonry, foundation and form work, window/door installation, flooring or roofing projects.
- High‑pressure steam distribution systems, residential/commercial heating appliance systems.
- Experience in a correctional environment with offenders.
- CNC operations/programming, wood finishing.
- Willingness to travel when required.
- Willingness to work overtime and shift work when required.
- Reliability status, valid driver's licence.
