The inland empire utilities agency (ieua) is seeking a dedicated and detail‑oriented accountant i/ii to perform advanced professional accounting work in support of the agency's financial operations.

In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring the integrity of the agency's financial records by preparing, reviewing, and analyzing complex accounting transactions, reconciliations, and reports. You'll contribute to key areas such as creating journal entries, performing reconciliations, financial reporting, ensuring compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and accounting standards. accountant i – graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a major in accounting or a closely related field; and one year of professional accounting experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in a public agency is preferred.

an accountant i may be considered for advancement to accountant ii after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class. Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria are established jointly by hiring authorities and the manager of human resources. Typically, an accountant i is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within an 18‑24‑month period, depending on an individual's prior experience and progression in performing the full range of accountant ii duties as described in the established performance criteria.

a valid california class c driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the agency's vehicle insurance program.

• comprehensive knowledge of governmental and fund accounting principles, gaap, and gasb standards, including financial reporting, internal controls, fixed assets, and grant accounting in a public agency setting.
• proficiency in analyzing complex financial data, preparing accurate reports and reconciliations, and identifying and resolving accounting or compliance issues.
• strong technical skills using enterprise financial systems (such as sap) and advanced excel or spreadsheet tools to manage and analyze large datasets efficiently.
• effective communication and collaboration abilities, with the capacity to explain complex financial information clearly, exercise sound judgment, and build positive working relationships across departments.
