Library/Learning Center Clerk
Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks involved in the circulation, maintenance, support, and processing of library materials, media and LLC resources; performs assigned library/media functions related to the circulation, cataloging, organization, and processing of materials and equipment; assists students, faculty, staff, and community members across the LLC. Provides support online and in-person, according to service need. Assists with coordination of delivery of services and provides work guidance to student assistants and LLC Clerk I staff to implement Chaffey policies and supervisor directives.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing high quality customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the community; performing circulation tasks and assisting with check-in and check-out processes and renewals;
- Assisting students, faculty, staff, and community members to locate, receive, and use LLC resources across multiple formats, to include print, audio-visual, digital, and other formats as technology evolves;
- Performing shelf reading, shelving and shifting of books, and cleaning shelving areas as needed;
- Maintaining distribution and tracking of LLC equipment;
- Assisting with computer printing, scanning, photocopying and other equipment; performing simple servicing of machines and assisting with basic computer software/hardware issues; troubleshooting and contacting servicing support for handling, as necessary;
- Providing assistance and answering questions to direct students, staff, faculty, and community members to additional Chaffey resources, as appropriate. Maintaining a strong working knowledge of resources across Chaffey College.
- Working with Library Technicians to ensure library materials are updated;
- Providing work direction to short-term and student workers;
- Coordinating preparation of facility for opening and closing, securing public areas, powering on and off equipment, and other related activities;
- Processing and maintaining reserves, reserve records, and providing reserve cataloging for physical and digital reserve collections. Processing faculty-provided material. Monitoring and revising the physical and digital inventory of reserve collections;
- Fulfilling requests for archived course descriptions; digitizing materials and assisting with Archive Projects, as needed;
- Confirming student registration status to verify student accounts and lending eligibility using appropriate campus technologies;
- Performing a variety of clerical duties, communicating in-person and online, handling routine correspondence and requests; screening and directing calls, and inquiries to appropriate personnel or department;
- Tracking and notifying users of overdue materials and equipment through multiple communication strategies as needed;
- Assisting with scheduling of LLC Clerk staff coverage across multiple locations during staff absences;
- Collaborating with other College departments, as assigned; participating in staff meetings and attending training as assigned;
- Performing related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of this would be completion of high school and work experience in library/learning media circulation.
- Demonstrated evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds in a community college environment.
- Knowledge of library terminology, practices, and procedures as they apply to an automated circulation module.
- Knowledge of the full range of library services; knowledge of the filing and classification systems used in the library; ability to file accurately and rapidly according to detailed guidelines. Ability to input data into administrative and library databases.
- Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and other general-use records; ability to learn to operate LLC equipment.
- Ability to interpret and explain library policies and procedures.
