Vehicle Emissions Lab Technician
Job Description
The Vehicle Emissions Lab Technician safely prepares and conducts vehicle emissions tests on chassis dynamo meters while supporting a wide range of testing, maintenance, and project activities in a laboratory environment. This role combines hands-on mechanical and electrical work with careful adherence to safety procedures and test schedules, contributing directly to accurate emissions measurements and continuous improvement of lab operations.
Responsibilities
+ Safely prepare vehicles and test equipment for emissions testing on chassis dynamo meters.
+ Conduct daily vehicle emissions tests in strict accordance with the test schedule and established safety processes.
+ Operate chassis dynamo meters and related emissions analysis equipment during test procedures.
+ Work closely with team members to support all testing, maintenance, and project work in the emissions laboratory.
+ Assist with hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical issues on vehicles and test equipment.
+ Assist with hands-on troubleshooting of electrical issues on vehicles and test equipment.
+ Learn to perform routine calibrations of dynamo meters, emissions analyzers, and related instruments.
+ Carry out routine inspections of test systems, laboratory equipment, and facilities to ensure proper operation.
+ Support routine maintenance and basic repairs on laboratory equipment, dynamo meters, and associated systems.
+ Participate in emissions laboratory and facility improvement projects, contributing ideas and feedback.
+ Follow all safety guidelines and procedures related to mechanical, electrical, and vehicle operations.
+ Document test activities, issues, and maintenance actions using computer-based tools and systems.
+ Collaborate with colleagues by sharing information, coordinating tasks, and communicating test status.
+ Adapt to changing test schedules and priorities as directed by lab leadership.
+ Support general automotive maintenance tasks related to test vehicles as needed.
Essential Skills
+ At least 6 years of experience working with mechanical and electrical fundamentals.
+ Strong understanding of both electrical and mechanical components and associated safety practices.
+ Understanding of vehicle safety and vehicle architecture.
+ Knowledge and interest in automotive systems, chassis dynamo meters, and emissions analysis equipment.
+ Ability to apply creative and critical thinking to diagnose and solve technical problems.
+ Previous experience in automotive, facilities, electrical, repair, or diagnostic work.
+ Proficiency using computers and willingness to learn new software, tools, and systems.
+ Strong teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly with colleagues.
+ Ability to commute daily to the jobsite in the Chino area Monday through Friday.
+ Flexibility to work overtime on weekdays and/or weekends as needed.

Skills & Qualifications
+ Automotive maintenance experience.
+ Hands-on experience with dynamo meters or emissions testing equipment.
+ Experience in facility maintenance or laboratory environments.
+ Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical diagnostic tools.
+ Interest in continuous learning and improving laboratory processes.
Work Environment
This role is based in an emissions laboratory that conducts vehicle testing using chassis dynamo meters and emissions analysis equipment. You will work on-site in the Chino area, Monday through Friday, with core hours typically between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., subject to schedule needs set by leadership. The position involves hands-on work around vehicles, mechanical systems, and electrical equipment in a controlled lab and shop environment.
You can expect to use computer systems and specialized software to support testing and documentation. The role may require overtime on weekdays and occasional weekends to meet testing demands. Safety procedures are a central part of daily operations, and you will work closely with a collaborative team focused on accurate testing, reliable equipment performance, and continuous improvement of the facility.

This is a Contract position based out of Chino, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $27.00/hr.
