The Administration Department ensures City Council policies and directives are effectively carried out while supporting operations across all City departments. Within this team, the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) function plays a vital role in managing and advancing the City’s spatial data and mapping resources. This position provides technical support for GIS applications and systems, including data maintenance, mapping production, system implementation, and troubleshooting;

monitors system performance and data integrity; assists users with complex mapping and analysis needs; and performs advanced technical work related to GIS programs and services. This role supports data‑driven decision‑making and helps keep the organization connected, efficient, and responsive to the community.

What You’ll Do
  • Support citywide GIS mapping by creating, maintaining, and presenting maps, data layers, and databases for multiple departments.
  • Analyze user needs and deliver GIS solutions, reports, and visual displays using tools like ArcGIS and related systems.
  • Provide technical support, IT service center troubleshooting, and end‑user training on GIS and IT applications.
  • Integrate GIS with City databases and systems, manage updates, and coordinate with software vendors.
  • Maintain documentation, research emerging technologies, and support overall IT operations and City initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong experience managing and maintaining Enterprise GIS systems, including spatial analysis, cartographic methods, and municipal GIS applications.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relational databases, understand data models, and integrate GIS data with systems like SQL Server and ArcGIS.
  • Strong skills in GIS technologies and tools, including importing CAD files, producing maps, and applying modern GIS best practices.
  • Capability of troubleshooting systems, supporting networked environments, and collaborating with staff to meet organizational GIS and technology needs.
Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized training or certifications in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), such as GIS software applications, spatial analysis, or ESRI ArcGIS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in geography, geographic information systems, geospatial analysis or a closely related field (highly desirable).
  • Coursework or formal training in geographic information systems, cartography, spatial data management, or geospatial programming (highly desirable).
Experience
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience working with personal and mainframe computer hardware, network systems, and a variety of software applications.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working with ESRI products in support of an enterprise Geographic Information System;
    ArcGIS version 10 or Pro (desirable for GIS).
