ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance and observe dress regulations.
- Cook “Nixtamal”; operate the mill and package, count, and even up tortillas.
- Greet all customers and provide prompt and courteous service.
- Learn all products’ names and prices used in the Tortillería department.
- Maintain housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policy and health regulations.
- Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
- Prepare the machine for operation, equip it with the appropriate tools, run and monitor the machine, and set up and operate machines according to blueprints and specifications.
- Exercise quality control by comparing the product the machine produces.
- Perform any other work‑related duties as assigned.
- Maintain good communication in the department and throughout the organization.
- Assist in training associates when assigned.
- Ensure all tools and machines are in good working condition.
- Inspect machines periodically throughout the shift and adjust machine speeds.
- Follow strict safety rules and wear protective equipment such as earplugs, gloves, and goggles.
- Comply with safety policies and procedures; read all safety committee bulletins.
- High school diploma preferred but not required.
- Minimum one year experience in the tortillería department or in machine operations.
- Safety Training
- Food Safety certificate
- Calculate discounts, gross margins, markup, percentages, proportions, ratios, and volume.
- Verify vendor invoice charges and counts, and complete required accounting reports.
- Basic computer skills are helpful.
- Communicate effectively with customers, telephone, and co‑workers.
- Read and understand instructions for operating electronic equipment and tools.
- Compose and write reports, business correspondence, and departmental memos.
- Mechanically inclined and correct minor errors.
- Work in a fast‑paced environment independently without much supervision.
- Regularly sit, stand, and handle tools or controls.
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Work with fresh meats, fruits, vegetables, flour, oils, spices, and other agents without negative allergic consequences.
- Work areas are noisy, well‑lit, air‑conditioned, and include exposure to low temperatures and high temperatures.
- Available to work weekends and evenings; overtime common.
