Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA) seeks a highly skilled and experienced Mechanic IV to serve as a hands‑on mentor and working lead within the Operations and Maintenance team. The role involves guiding, training, and collaborating with a team of mechanics to maintain the Agency’s complex mechanical systems in water, wastewater, recycled water, and composting operations.
Responsibilities- Coordinate maintenance projects and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues.
- Oversee preventive and predictive maintenance activities for pumps, compressors, gearboxes, pipelines, and other vital systems.
- Perform complex mechanical repairs, upgrades, and alignments to extend equipment life and reduce downtime.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and contractors on equipment installations and system improvements.
- Utilize data from preventive and predictive maintenance programs to support asset management decisions.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- At least five years of progressively responsible experience in the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of complex water facilities and systems.
- College‑level coursework highly desirable.
- Experience working in a public agency is preferred.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license.
- CPR and First Aid Certification.
- Confined Space Certification.
- Approved and qualified use of Self‑Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
- Forklift Certification.
- Within six months of appointment: obtain and maintain the above certifications.
- Within 24 months of hire or promotion: obtain California Water Environment Association Mechanical Technologist Grade 4 Certification.
- Within 24 months of hire or promotion: obtain one of the following certifications:
Certified Maintenance Reliability Technician (or approved alternative), Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (or approved alternative), Certified Reliability Leader (or approved alternative), Vibration Analyst II (or approved alternative), Machinery Lubrication Technician I (or approved alternative), Infrared Thermography I (or approved alternative), Ultrasound Level I (or approved alternative). - Optional additional certifications:
California Class A or B driver’s license, Boom Truck Fixed Cab Operator Certification, Weighmaster Certification.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to mechanics and maintenance personnel, fostering teamwork, accountability, and adherence to safety and performance standards.
- Conduct advanced condition monitoring and reliability analyses using vibration analyzers, ultrasonic detectors, and infrared thermography.
- Perform complex mechanical repairs, upgrades, and alignments on pumps, gearboxes, piping systems, and rotating equipment.
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and contractors on maintenance projects, equipment installations, and system improvements.
- Utilize data‑driven insights from preventive and predictive maintenance programs to support asset management decisions and recommend maintenance strategy enhancements.
