School Principal - Catholic Liberal Arts

Position Summary

The Principal serves as the chief instructional and administrative leader for St. Charles Borromeo Preschool/Primary School, with particular responsibility for ensuring faithful alignment of all programs and practices with the mission of a Catholic liberal arts education for students in Preschool through Grade 2. The Principal provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for all educational and operational matters, ensuring that curriculum, instruction, culture, and community life intentionally form young children in the Good, the Beautiful, and the True.

In collaboration with the President of MACS, the Dean of Academic Affairs, Central Office administration, and advisory bodies, the Principal provides clarity, direction, and mission-centered leadership appropriate to early childhood and primary education.

Qualifications
  • Approved by the diocesan bishop and Superintendent of Catholic Schools
  • Approved by the President
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education
  • Master’s degree with coursework in school administration
  • Certified or certifiable in administration by the State of Wisconsin
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching or comparable leadership experience in Catholic schools
  • Working knowledge of Church documents related to Catholic education

Responsibilities

I. Catholic Identity and Mission
  • Serves as the primary steward of the school’s Catholic identity, ensuring all aspects of Preschool–Grade 2 school life align with the mission of a Catholic liberal arts education and the formation of students in the Good, the Beautiful, and the True.
  • Cultivates a vibrant faith community rooted in prayer, sacramental life, and the Catholic tradition, appropriate to the developmental needs of young children.
  • Demonstrates deep knowledge of Catholic Church teaching and the Catholic intellectual tradition, remaining current with developments in Catholic education and early childhood formation.
  • Maintains required religious certification in accordance with diocesan policies.
  • Ensures faculty compliance with diocesan religious-certification requirements and supports ongoing formation in Catholic identity and Catholic liberal arts pedagogy.
II. Personnel
  • Assists in recruiting, interviewing, and recommending professional and support staff.
  • Provides annual staff orientation in collaboration with Central Office and specialized orientation for new staff.
  • Implements diocesan supervision and evaluation procedures for all faculty.
  • Supports ongoing professional growth through faculty meetings, in-service programs, and collaboration with other administrators.
  • Maintains accurate personnel records through Central Office.
III. Instructional Program
  • Collaborates with the administrative team to develop, articulate, and faithfully implement the school system’s philosophy and mission as a Catholic liberal arts education for Preschool through Grade 2.
  • Partners with the Dean of Academic Affairs to develop and implement a unified curriculum.
  • Monitors instructional programs and reviews assessment data to guide program improvement.
  • Helps in the development and coordination of Camp Macks.
IV. Students
  • Promotes a safe, Gospel-centered learning environment.
  • Oversees assessment of students’ religious, academic, social, emotional, and physical development.
