Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - PHP/IOP - PRN

Overview

Schedule:

PRN – as needed coverage when clinic is open (M-F). No set hours or consistent days. Typical shift: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Ideal candidate is open to supporting both Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls locations. The registered nurse (RN, RN II, RN III) provides professional nursing care to help patients achieve or regain, and maintain, optimal physical, emotional, or social functioning.

Role functions follow the Nurse Practice Act, applicable Administrative Codes, and Rogers Memorial Hospital policies and procedures. The RN collaborates with the health team as patient needs warrant and communicates with the Patient Accounts department to provide patient information for compliance with federal and state statutes.

Responsibilities
  • Complete initial assessments and document findings as required.
  • Collect, record, and analyze pertinent admission data within prescribed time frames, including patient strengths, limitations, cultural/spiritual/ethnic factors, discharge needs, medical/physical status, medication history and current schedule, and age-specific needs.
  • Engage patient support systems (family, friends) in assessment and documentation; observe and document interactions pertinent to treatment; obtain assessment data from appropriate sources.
  • Advocate for patients; explain rights and obtain necessary signatures on consents; protect privacy and confidentiality.
  • Assist in patient orientation; know and apply hospital policies on safety, admission procedures, and related processes.
  • Initiate and update treatment plans; plan and modify care with patient/family; evaluate multidisciplinary data for assigned patients.
  • Participate in care conferences; communicate nursing care components of the treatment plan to others.
  • Develop and interpret age-appropriate care plans; write clear, observable treatment goals; review and update goals as they are achieved or changed.
  • Review laboratory data; follow up with physicians as needed; assess fall risk and implement fall precautions; identify risk of self-harm, suicidality, or aggression; implement age-appropriate interventions.
  • Coordinate and implement patient care according to established plans and unit standards; ensure cultural and age-specific needs are met.
  • Ensure compliance with EMTALA and related regulatory requirements for admissions, transfers, and other care activities (as qualified).
    Adhere to nursing and hospital standards of practice and patient care.
  • Promote safety and infection control; participate in continuing education and in-service programs; share knowledge with unit staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities; contribute to unit standards of care and system improvements; attend required committees and meetings; assume leadership roles as needed.
  • Coordinate, supervise, and delegate tasks to LPN/psychiatric technicians considering their preparation and abilities; maintain primary caseload per unit standards.
  • Facilitate patient education, discharge planning, and collaboration with Patient Accounts for accurate billing information.
  • Promote professional growth, pursue continuing education, and engage in performance improvement processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Registered nurse licensed in the state of employment; license in good standing.
  • American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR certification or obtain within 30 days of hire; biennial re-certification required.
  • Formal training in management of the aggressive patient within 60 days of hire; annual re-certification required.
  • Previous psychiatric experience with children, adolescents, and adults preferred.
  • May be required to hold a qualified medical professional (QMP) designation as per hospital discretion; competency evaluated annually.
  • For Child/Adolescent Day Treatment programs, either psychiatric nursing training or one year of clinical experience with children is required.
