SUMMARY: The Electrical Trades Instructor provides hands‑on and classroom instruction in electrical theory, wiring, circuitry, blueprint reading, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards to prepare students for entry‑level employment in the electrical industry. The instructor integrates safety practices, industry certifications, CTSO (Skills
USA) participation, and employability skills to ensure students are workforce‑ready. This role also supports student success through collaboration with staff, industry partners, and advisory committees while maintaining a safe, structured, and industry‑aligned learning environment.
- Provide hands‑on and classroom instruction in electrical theory, wiring methods, circuitry, blueprint reading, and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards to prepare students for entry‑level employment in the electrical trades industry.
- Deliver instruction aligned with industry practices, emphasizing safety procedures, tool usage, electrical installation, troubleshooting, and foundational residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems.
- Integrate employability and soft skills development, including teamwork, communication, problem‑solving, punctuality, and workplace professionalism.
- Advise and support CTSO (Skills
USA) participation by preparing students for leadership development opportunities and electrical trade competitions at the regional, state, and national levels. - Assist students in obtaining industry‑recognized credentials and certifications related to electrical trades, including safety and foundational electrical certifications.
- Maintain a safe and organized lab environment, ensuring strict adherence to all safety protocols, OSHA standards, and program‑specific guidelines.
- Collaborate with student services personnel to support student success, including academic progress, attendance monitoring, behavior support, and postsecondary transition planning.
- Participate in and collaborate with an advisory committee composed of industry professionals, employers, parents/guardians, former students, and partner school staff to ensure program relevance and alignment with workforce needs.
- Support student career readiness by assisting with resume development, interview preparation, job readiness skills, and potential employment opportunities.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and submit all required reports in accordance with State Department of Career Tech and local school district policies and deadlines.
- Conduct ongoing follow‑up on all program completers and students to track employment, certification attainment, and postsecondary placement outcomes.
- Enforce classroom and lab discipline policies consistently to maintain a structured, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Participate in staff development and professional organizations to enhance instructional effectiveness and support student success.
Education/
Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Four years of recent industry experience preferred. Teaching experience preferred but not required.
Language
Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
