JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: CLASSROOM TEACHER ASSISTANT

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of computers and general office machines.
  • Demonstrate a cheerful attitude, good personal hygiene and ability to work with students, teacher, patrons, administrators and co‑workers.
  • Possess a loving concern for students and assist in developing positive self‑concept. Fulfill requirements for promptness and good attendance habits.
  • Demonstrate good work habits and effective use of time.

REPORTS TO: Assigned Teacher and/or Site Principal in accordance with Board Policy.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 164 Contract Days. Salary to be determined as per SECNP Master contract.

JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher in maintaining appropriate classroom activities and environment that will enable students to take full advantage of the instructional program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with clerical duties to compile student records and folders.
  • Guide children in working and playing harmoniously with others.
  • Provide escort and assistance to children as necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining neat work and study areas.
  • Prepare, distribute and collect workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction.
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
  • Conduct learning exercises with small groups of children.
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills introduced by the teacher.
  • Read to and listen to students read and participate in other forms of oral communication with students.
  • Assist students in the media center.
  • Operate and care for equipment used for instructional purposes.
  • Assist with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods and field trips.
  • Assist with snack and cleanup routines, also with wash‑up and toilet routines.
  • Alert regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Assist substitute in the absence of regular teacher.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality as is expected of licensed teachers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by teacher and/or principal.

c. Fine Manipulation.

Employee’s job requires:
a. Being around moving machinery.
b. Exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity.
c. Exposure to dust, fumes, and gases.
