Montgomery County Public Schools in Virginia is now accepting applications for Library Media Specialist teaching positions that may become available within our division for the 2026–2027 school year.
As a continuous recruitment posting, a qualified applicant will be considered for any available position as they arise. Specific postings may require separate application.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Work with teachers and school staff to provide skills and materials that supplement student learning.
- Maintain an updated and efficiently functioning library.
- Maintain and upgrade library materials.
- Supervise circulation of library materials.
- Instruct students on how to use the library.
- Perform management duties related to the library.
- Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teacher’s License with appropriate endorsement as a Library Media Specialist.
- Have extensive knowledge of books and literature.
- Apply technology in an educational setting.
- Utilize Google Drive for instructional purposes, collaboration, and managing coursework.
- Create and maintain an inclusive, supportive learning environment that respects diverse student backgrounds and needs.
- Communicate effectively with strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Engage and collaborate effectively with parents and families.
- Collaborate with other teachers and contribute to a positive team environment.
- Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities.
- Experience with the selection and utilization of library media materials and equipment, including various technologies found in media centers.
- Experience with organization, administration, and evaluation of a library media center, including ethical issues.
- Familiarity with the role of the library media specialist as a resource person for students and professional staff in curriculum design and the integration of library media services into instruction.
Exempt
SALARY$52,832.35 – $85,613.64 annually, with benefits; commensurate with experience. Salary may change due to budget considerations.
