School Counselor

Christiansburg High School

Montgomery County School Board in Virginia is now accepting applications for a school counselor position that is available at Christiansburg High School for the  school year.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The School Counselor supports the academic, career, and social-emotional development of all students through a comprehensive school counseling program. The counselor collaborates with students, families, teachers, administrators, and community partners to promote student success, remove barriers to learning, and help students develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to achieve their educational and career goals. Responsibilities include providing individual and group counseling, academic advising, crisis intervention, college and career planning, and consultation with staff and families while fostering a positive, safe, and inclusive school environment.

ESSENTIAL

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Department of Education license with appropriate endorsement as a school counselor, PreK-12 or equivalent
  • Hold a master’s degree in counseling with an emphasis in school counseling
  • Demonstrate an ability to support students by cooperatively working with school administrators, parents/guardians, and teachers
  • Utilize Google Drive and possess expertise in using technology in education
  • Create and maintain an inclusive, supportive learning environment that respects the diverse backgrounds and needs of all students
  • Communicate effectively with strong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Engage and collaborate effectively with parents and families
  • Collaborate with other teachers and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Demonstrate dependability, punctuality, and reliability in fulfilling responsibilities

  • Counselor and teaching experience

FLSA Status E xempt

SALARY $59,698.32 - $92,232.52 annually, with benefits; pro-rated to start date
