Job SummaryUnder the supervision of a special education teacher, supports students with disabilities ages 3‑21 in accessing and adapting the curriculum, promoting independence, and ensuring safety and supervision.
Responsibilities- Assists teachers in preparing instructional materials and activities to support students with disabilities.
- Provides accommodations and modifications as written in a student’s Individualized Education Program.
- Reinforces material already presented through special efforts and repetitions; prepares and maintains files and reports; assists with data collection.
- Assists teachers in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks.
- Supports individual or small‑group instruction to adapt curriculum to students’ needs.
- Maintains standards of student behavior, created and implemented by the teacher.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
- Supports students with special needs instructionally, behaviorally, and physically to achieve life skills.
- Ensures cleanliness of learning spaces by washing, wiping, and maintaining equipment.
- Assists with use of technology or augmentative communication devices.
- Provides supervision in all areas of the school setting and assists children as necessary for physical and behavioral needs.
- Checks students’ work for compliance with teacher’s instructions, providing feedback while not completing work.
- Assists students with content area skills (math, reading, writing, spelling, history, etc.).
- Demonstrates confidentiality by maintaining individual records for each student.
- Helps maintain order in the classroom, monitoring students to keep them on tasks as specified in behavior plans.
- Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
Minimum of two years of college experience or successful completion of a Parapro Assessment. Individuals who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Physical RequirementsLight to medium duties requiring occasional movement and assistance for students; responsibilities may include lifting, moving, and supporting students as described in the job duties.
Work EnvironmentPrimarily classroom settings with occasional field trips and other instructional activities. The role may involve working in varied school environments.
Salary$26,077.50 – $45,727.05 per year, commensurate with experience.
