CAD Technician

Location:

Christiansburg, VA

Shift: 100% onsite, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 1 hour lunch. No travel required.

Interview Process:
Teams interview, followed by an onsite interview with a CAD test/demonstration required.

This role sits within a global materials science and technology company's engineering organization, supporting the creation, revision, and management of technical drawings used across engineering, maintenance, and operations.

• 3D CAD drafting and drawing management
• GD&T and standard drafting practices
• Legacy drawing conversion and revision control

• Create, revise, and maintain detailed drawings and drawing packages
• Convert conceptual or modeled designs into complete drawing packages
• Update existing drawings based on field conditions, markups, or project changes
• Support drawing organization, redline incorporation, and legacy drawing digitization
• Track revisions and support basic engineering computations and specification updates
• Interface with operations and maintenance personnel to document requests and retrieve drawings
• Read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing drawings
• Maintain drawing accuracy throughout the revision process
• Train new employees or team members on drawing management and documentation procedures
• Recommend improvements to standard drawing and documentation workflows

• Associate degree or 2 year technical degree in CAD/CAM, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant CAD drafting, design support, or engineering support experience
• Proficiency with Solid Works or comparable 3D CAD software
• Working knowledge of GD&T and standard drafting practices
• Strong attention to detail and document control discipline

• Experience with AutoCAD
• Experience working in a manufacturing, industrial, or plant engineering environment
• Familiarity with Solid Works PDM or similar drawing vault/document control systems
• Experience with additive manufacturing or 3D printing
