Clinic RN Team Lead - NRV

Overview

The Registered Nurse (RN) Team Lead supports the delivery of high‑quality patient care and fosters team performance within the practice clinical service area. This role blends direct patient care duties with leadership and operational oversight to ensure optimal outcomes and a positive work environment.

• Lead the delivery of patient care, ensuring clinical excellence and adherence to departmental standards.
• Provide direction, supervision, and delegation of clinical and non‑clinical responsibilities to staff.
• Foster a positive team culture that promotes accountability, high morale, low turnover, and professional growth.
• Recognize staff accomplishments and encourage ongoing development and engagement.
• Serve as a communication bridge between staff and management, ensuring two‑way feedback and timely resolution of issues.
• Collaborate with physicians, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate and manage care plans.
• Maintain confidentiality and make informed decisions based on sensitive information.
• Attend local and organizational management meetings, representing the unit and contributing to broader initiatives.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards (e.g., The Joint Commission, CLIA, OSHA).
• Support fiscal management by maintaining staffing levels, controlling expenses, and contributing to budget planning.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives, including patient satisfaction and performance metrics.
• Provide age‑appropriate care utilizing knowledge of life span development.
• Respond to urgent staffing needs, including working at other Carilion facilities when necessary.
• Exercise sound judgment in interpreting laws, regulations, and organizational policies, with awareness of potential impacts on reimbursement, HR, and clinical pathways.

• Graduate of a State Board of Nursing approved program (required).
• One year of clinical discipline experience, with demonstrated clinical and leadership expertise (required).
• Registered Nurse licensure in the state of Virginia (required).
• Completion of de‑escalation training within four months of hire for psychiatry and behavioral health duties (required).
• Computer skills required for electronic medical record (EPIC).
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and skills.
• Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Successful completion of orientation and competency validation for the position.
• Ability to appropriately handle or restrain patients who may be disruptive or physically violent.
