Description

Applications for Part-Time, Adjunct Instructor pools are continually accepted (unless otherwise specified) by the District. They will be added to the application pool for review by hiring authorities on an as-needed basis. Should you be invited for an interview, you will be contacted by a District representative.

Southwestern College is looking to hire a part-time instructor to teach a variety of Economics including:

Econ 100:
Presents a nontechnical introduction to the basic concepts of economics. Investigates economic basis of such real-world problems as inflation, unemployment, economic power, and international trade deficits. (Does not fulfill the lower-division economics requirements for business or economics majors transferring to four-year institutions.)

Econ 101
- Introduces students to the basic tools necessary to analyze a nation's economy from the macroeconomic perspective. Emphasizes understanding of core topics including: market systems, aggregate measures of economic activity, macroeconomic equilibrium, money and financial institutions, monetary and fiscal policy, international economics, and economic growth

Econ 102
- Introduces the basic analytic tools necessary to understand an economy from the microeconomic perspective. Emphasizes core topics including: choices of individual economic decision-makers, scarcity and its effects, specialization and trade, market equilibrium, elasticity, production and cost theory, market structures, factor markets, and market failure.

Class modalities include face-to-face, online, hybrid, and remote. However, for this current recruitment, we are most interested in candidates who are available and enthusiastic about teaching face-to-face during the day. Classes may be held during weekdays, and/or evenings at any of the campus sites (Chula Vista, National City, Otay Mesa, and/or San Ysidro) including local high schools and/or Donovan Prison.

Qualifications

Master's in economics

OR

Bachelor's in economics

AND

Master's in business, business administration, business management, business education, finance or political science

OR

the equivalent.

Additional assessment is required for applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States. Applicants must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and must submit a copy of the evaluation with the application.
