Job Summary

The San Diego County Office of Education is recruiting to fill a vacancy for the position of Senior Program Specialist, Special Education (Emphasis on Assistive Technology) for the South County SELPA Department of the Student Services and Programs Division. The job of Senior Program Specialist, Special Education is done for the purpose of facilitating and coordinating services to individuals with exceptional needs;

assisting SDCOE and districts in evaluating the effectiveness of programs for individuals with exceptional needs; providing information and serving as a resource to support staff, teachers, classified staff, and administrators; and developing and assisting with the implementation of policies and procedures related to special education at the SDCOE and district levels. The current vacancy will assist in the coordination of assistive technology strategy, guide AT assessments and reporting, support training initiatives, evaluate tech resources for student accessibility, and provide expert consultation to enhance educational experiences for students with disabilities, aligning with program goals and compliance standards.

This position is part-time and will offer the certificated management benefits package, which includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage, and will participate in the CalSTRS state retirement system.

Requirements / Qualifications

The current part-time vacancy is 0.5 FTE totaling 95 work days over 12 months. The anticipated work schedule is Tuesday, Wednesday, and alternating Thursdays; flexibility on scheduled days will be offered to the selected candidate.

Experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years of teaching and/or administrative experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs and a specialized, in-depth knowledge of one or more areas of major disabling conditions, and across all age levels.
Education
  • A master’s degree in special education, education, educational administration, or closely related field.
Equivalency

A combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in special education, education, educational administration, or closely related field, and a minimum of five (5) years of teaching and/or administrative experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs and a specialized in-depth knowledge of one or more areas of major disabling conditions, and across all age levels.

Certificates, Licenses, Credentials

One of the following valid California teaching or service credentials:

  • Education Specialist Credential, or
  • Clinical Rehabilitation Services Credential (preferred), or
  • Speech-Language Pathology Services Credential, or
  • Pupil Personnel Services Credential in one of the following:
    School Psychology, School Counseling, or Social Work, or
  • An equivalent document

Valid California Administrative Services Credential is (preferred).

Valid California driver’s license
