DescriptionUnder the direction of the Director, Child Development Center, assist in providing a safe and stimulating environment that supports the optimal growth and development of each child at the Child Development Center, serve as a role model for assistant teachers, student teachers, service learners, and observers in demonstrating and providing mentoring on developmentally appropriate methods and practices.
QualificationsEducation and experience equivalent to an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, including three (3) semester units of supervised field experience in an Early Childhood Education setting.
One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement.
If specifically referenced (i.e. degree 'or equivalent'), related experience that is above the minimum requirement may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
Additional assessment is required for applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States. A copy of the evaluation must be submitted with your on-line application.
Incumbents must meet the requirements for a Child Development Teacher as prescribed by the State (one year of experience in a licensed Child Development Center).
Possession of valid Pediatric CPR and First Aid certificates.
Tuberculosis (TB) test clearance.
Desired Qualifications- Desired age group work experience: birth to 5 years of age, depending on the center's needs.
Knowledge of preschool curriculum, theories and principles of early childhood development, including the fundamental principles of the Reggio Emilia approach, methods used to document children's work, age-appropriate behaviors and expectations, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy, applicable laws, codes, state regulations and accreditation, policies, and procedures.
Ability to perform classroom duties of Teacher during assigned hours, communicate with and resolve issues from students and parents, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others, work with and exhibit sensitivity to and understanding the diverse racial, ethnic, disabled, sexual orientation, and community college students' cultural populations, learn and adapt to changing technology and equipment used in the performance of assigned duties.
