Southwestern College is looking to hire a local part-time instructor to teach the following Journalism courses:
- Introduction to Mass Communication and Society
- Newspaper Production
Please specify which course(s) you would be comfortable teaching in your application materials.
Lecture classes may be offered at multiple campuses and in various modalities (face-to-face, hybrid, and online).
The Newspaper Production class is only offered at the Chula Vista Campus.
If a course is offered online, completion of a 5-week Distance Education Faculty Training (DEFT) certification will be required prior to staffing (compensation available); or proof of a district approved Distance Education training course may be accepted in lieu of DEFT. Master’s in journalism or communication with a specialization in journalism;
OR
Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in English, history, communication, literature, composition, comparative literature, any social science, business, business administration, marketing, graphics or photography;
OR
The equivalent.
Additional assessment is required for applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States. Applicants must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) and must submit a copy of the evaluation with the application.
