The Civil Engineer Trainee position with the Illinois Department of Transportation assists in preparing final plans and implementing highway construction projects across District 4 in Peoria. The role involves field measurements, computations, documentation, and design work while rotating through different bureaus as part of a structured training program. This is an entry-level engineering position offering clear pathways for promotion to Civil Engineer I, II, and III within 24 months.
Keyqualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an ABET accredited college (or Illinois Engineer Intern Certificate, PE license, or Structural Engineer License)
- Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA; if GPA is 2.0-2.5, must also hold Engineer Intern Certificate or PE/Structural Engineer License
- Valid driver's license and ability for district-wide travel
- Working knowledge of civil engineering practices and basic skill with engineering field and office instruments
- Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to make technical computations
