Role Descriptionthe Junior Underwriter is a full-time, on-site role based at Central Federal Savings & Loan Association in Cicero, IL. This role supports the underwriting team by reviewing loan applications, verifying documentation, and ensuring adherence to internal policies and regulatory requirements. Daily responsibilities include analyzing borrower financial information, assisting in risk assessment, preparing files for underwriting decisions, and communicating with loan officers.
The Junior Underwriter helps maintain accurate records, follows established workflows, and contributes to a positive customer experience by supporting timely and thorough loan processing. The role also involves learning and applying underwriting guidelines and participating in ongoing training to enhance underwriting knowledge and skills.
- This position requires at least 2 years of Mortgage Underwriting/Processing experience, working knowledge of ATR/QM requirements.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, with strong written and verbal Communication skills.
- Experience with Encompass LOS, DU, Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
- Experience working with Escrow accounts, including calculation, reconciliation, and documentation.
- Knowledge of Loans, including mortgage loan documentation, closing processes, and post-closing procedures.
- Proven Customer Service skills, with a focus on responsiveness, follow-through, and relationship-building.
- Understanding of Real Estate transactions, title work, recording requirements, and related regulatory guidelines.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing legal and financial documents.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work effectively in a structured, on-site banking environment.
- Prior experience in mortgage lending, banking, or closing/post-closing operations preferred.
- Proficiency with standard office software and loan processing systems; strong organizational and data-entry skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in finance or real estate is a plus.
