, an engineering consultancy headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, to hire a Billing Specialist / Accounting Specialist to support project billing operations. This is an onsite role supporting a growing accounting team.
This position will join as the second billing specialist and will receive training from an experienced team member, making this a strong opportunity for someone looking to grow within a project‑based accounting environment.
Position OverviewAs part of the Accounting team, this role will focus primarily on project billing and financial support activities. The Billing Specialist will partner closely with engineers, project managers, and leadership to ensure accurate and timely billing throughout the project lifecycle.
The role reports to the Accounting Supervisor and will ultimately transition to reporting to the Global Controller upon conversion.
Key Responsibilities- Generate accurate client invoices based on project activity and billed work
- Partner with engineers to ensure timely and accurate timesheet submission
- Respond to email and phone inquiries from clients and internal project managers
- Manage the full project lifecycle including setup, funding, billing, and closeout
- Process and track purchase orders related to projects
- Post and apply incoming payments to the appropriate invoices
- Review billing reports and perform quality checks to ensure accuracy
- Perform month‑end general ledger reconciliations and assist with close processes
- Support leadership with financial reporting and project analysis
- Assist with ad hoc accounting and billing analysis as needed
- 1–3 years of experience in a billing or accounting role
- Experience in a project‑based, professional services, or engineering environment preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Client‑focused mindset with strong communication skills
- Comfortable partnering with project managers and external contacts
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills with interest in continued development
- Ability to manage deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
