Candidates based in Cincinnati must travel to HyCast Foundry in Fairfield, Iowa at least once per month for physical inventory verification, operational reviews, leadership meetings, and financial audits. Additional travel may be required during budgeting, capital projects, year-end close, major operational initiatives, or special assignments.

Company OverviewHyCast Foundry is a growing U.S. manufacturer of gray and ductile iron castings serving industrial, agricultural, construction, infrastructure, transportation, and heavy equipment markets.
As a recently acquired foundry undergoing significant operational and capital investment, HyCast is building a culture focused on accountability, continuous improvement, operational excellence, and financial discipline.
The Controller will play a critical leadership role in helping management transform financial data into operational decisions that improve profitability, cash flow, inventory management, and overall business performance. This is not a traditional accounting position.
The Controller is expected to be an active member of the leadership team, spending significant time in the plant, understanding operations, challenging assumptions, identifying opportunities, and helping drive business results.
Position SummaryReporting directly to the President, the Controller is responsible for all financial activities of HyCast Foundry, including financial reporting, cost accounting, inventory control, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, accounts receivable and payable oversight, fixed asset accounting, capital expenditure management, banking relationships, internal controls, ERP system administration, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Leadership
- Lead all accounting and finance activities for HyCast Foundry
- Maintain financial integrity and accuracy across all transactions
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements
- Prepare and present monthly financial packages to management and ownership
- Lead month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
- Coordinate external audits, tax preparation, and banking requirements
- Develop and maintain strong financial controls throughout the organization
Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Finance
- Own and continuously improve foundry cost accounting systems
- Analyze material, labor, burden, overhead, scrap, yield, and productivity performance
- Monitor and report key manufacturing metrics including cost per ton, melt efficiency, yield, scrap rates, labor efficiency, machine utilization, and inventory turns
- Perform detailed variance analysis and recommend corrective actions
- Support quoting and profitability analysis
- Identify cost reduction and operational improvement opportunities
Inventory Management
- Maintain accurate valuation of raw materials, WIP, finished goods, tooling, and MRO inventory
- Lead cycle count and physical inventory programs
- Establish inventory accuracy KPIs
- Investigate discrepancies and implement corrective actions
- Personally participate in monthly physical inventory reviews
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Flow
- Lead annual budgeting process
- Develop rolling forecasts
- Monitor cash flow performance
- Manage working capital initiatives
- Provide financial modeling for business decisions
Capital Expenditures & Investments
- Manage financial oversight of all capital projects
- Track project spending against approved budgets
- Measure project ROI and payback
- Support justification and approval of new investments
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
ERP & Process Improvement
- Become the internal expert on the Odyssey ERP system
- Improve reporting capabilities and data accuracy
- Develop KPIs and management dashboards
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the foundry
Leadership & Team Development
- Develop and mentor accounting and administrative personnel
- Promote financial literacy throughout the organization
- Build strong relationships with operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, purchasing, and sales teams
- Act as a trusted advisor to plant leadership and ownership
Required
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- Minimum 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Minimum 3 years in manufacturing finance, cost accounting, or plant controller roles
- Strong understanding of manufacturing accounting, standard costing, inventory valuation, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and internal controls
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with ERP systems
- Strong business and operational acumen
Preferred
- CPA and/or CMA certification
- Foundry, metal casting, steel, iron, aluminum, forging, machining, or heavy manufacturing experience
- Odyssey ERP experience
- Lean Manufacturing experience
- Six Sigma experience
