The Senior Accountant, Portfolio Operations will be responsible for the Grocery and Commissary accounting for Skyline, a portfolio company of North American Properties. This role handles the full accounting cycle across both divisions, including revenue recognition, accounts receivable management, cost accounting, inventory reconciliation, and period-end close.

Contributions you will make to our team Grocery Accounting & Accounts Receivable
  • Own the end-to-end accounts receivable process for the grocery division, including invoicing to retail customers such as Kroger, Walmart and other CPG channel partners.
  • Process and apply daily cash receipts including checks, ACHs, credit card payments, deductions, and damaged goods claims.
  • Reconcile and resolve outstanding AR issues, including short-paid invoices, trade deductions, chargebacks, and disputed balances with large retail customers.
  • Monitor AR aging and proactively elevate high-risk balances to the Accounting Manager.
  • Prepare and review grocery revenue reconciliations at period end, ensuring revenue is recognized accurately and completely across all channels.
  • Maintain customer records and ensure accurate coding of all transactions in Sage 100.
Commissary Accounting & Cost Management
  • Oversee the financial accounting for commissary manufacturing operations, including raw material costs, labor, overhead, and BOMs.
  • Reconcile inventory transactions for raw materials, WIP, and finished goods across the commissary and all external warehouse and 3PL locations.
  • Prepare monthly production variance analyses (actual vs. standard costs) and communicate results to operations and management.
  • Work with the shipping and warehousing team to post and audit weekly inventory counts, ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial records.
  • Complete commissary income statement analysis at period end, properly accruing expenses not processed in the closing period.
  • Support cost modeling for new product development, pricing strategies, and budget activities related to COGS.
Period-End Close & Financial Reporting
  • Responsible for period-end close activities for both the grocery and commissary divisions, including preparation of accruals, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financials.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for AR, inventory, and related accounts, presenting results to the Accounting Manager and Assistant Controller.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets and periodic forecasts for grocery revenue and commissary production costs.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests, preparing supporting schedules and documentation as required.
Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Identify and implement process improvements in AR, invoicing, inventory reconciliation, and close procedures to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with operations, supply chain, procurement, and grocery teams to ensure alignment between physical activity and financial records.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal accounting policies, and established financial procedures across both divisions.
  • All other responsibilities and special projects as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience; experience in food manufacturing, CPG, or retail-facing AR strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
  • Experience with Sage Manufacturing modules a plus.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with large data sets, pivot tables, and reconciliation models.
  • Experience with large-retailer receivables, deduction management, and chargeback resolution.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities across two distinct operational divisions.
  • High degree of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable working across operational and finance functions.
