Payroll Accountant

LHH is seeking a Payroll Accountant with 3+ years of experience to support payroll operations, compensation processing, reporting, and payroll-related accounting activities. The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable working with complex compensation structures in a professional services environment. This position is direct hire and will pay between $65K and $85K annually.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, review, and process payroll-related changes including new hires, terminations, transfers, garnishments, direct deposit updates, retirement contributions, paid time off adjustments, compensation changes, and tax elections within the payroll system.
  • Prepare and distribute compensation and expense-related statements for employee and ownership-level review during each semi-monthly payroll cycle.
  • Create and maintain Excel-based compensation calculations that incorporate earnings, deductions, benefit contributions, taxes, expense allocations, employer-paid taxes, charitable contributions, and other payroll adjustments.
  • Generate payroll upload files and import compensation data into the payroll processing system.
  • Maintain payroll logs, schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation related to compensation processing.
  • Process compensation for exempt personnel and ownership groups, ensuring accuracy and completeness of all payroll information.
  • Submit semi-monthly payrolls and coordinate funding requests for payroll-related liabilities with internal accounting teams.
  • Download, organize, and store payroll registers, tax reports, and supporting payroll documentation in accordance with record retention procedures.
  • Review, reconcile, and post payroll-related journal entries for various employee groups with assistance from payroll leadership.
  • Prepare payroll reports and management reporting packages utilizing payroll system data.
  • Assist with compensation analyses, capital-related calculations, audits, and special reporting projects as needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employment verification requests and payroll documentation inquiries.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Three or more years of payroll, payroll accounting, or related experience.
  • Experience working with payroll platforms such as ADP, Paycor, UKG/Ulti Pro, or similar payroll systems.
  • Experience with timekeeping and workforce management modules is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reconciliation and reporting functions.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Experience preparing payroll journal entries, account reconciliations, and payroll reporting.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive compensation information in a professional manner.

Pay Details: $65,000.00 to $80,000.00 per year
