general statement of duties

this human resources technician ii position provides clerical and administrative assistance to the human resource manager. This employee contributes technical knowledge and input on daily operations of the human resource department and assists the assigned supervisor and other departments.

examples of work performed

  • provides clerical, technical, and administrative assistance to the supervisor.
  • maintain manager calendars (set up meetings and appointments).
  • prepare, type, word process and proofread documents (general correspondence, agendas, reports).
  • may assist with interviewing processes conducted by the human resource department.
  • serve as a computer system/subject matter expert and advise on daily operations of the human resources computer processing system.
  • identify and respond to user computer issues; test systems as necessary.
  • provide ongoing training and technical support for users across the district.
  • provide updates on training manuals, data, and information booklets as needed with technology.
  • ensure compliance with human resources, cps goals and technology standards.
  • provide ongoing human resources computer system training as technology changes.
  • produce or instruct others to produce query reports; review material and finished products for accuracy.
  • enter data in various computer data files and programs.
  • may answer the telephone and assist cps staff and the general public.
  • provide information on cps and departmental policies and procedures.
  • assist in staff training and development; respond or route inquiries and complaints to appropriate personnel.
  • maintain filing systems (manual or computerized).
  • operate modern office procedures and computer equipment, including pc software relevant to duties.
  • assist with examinations (notifications, scheduling, monitoring) and provide instructions to lower level, new, and transferred employees.
  • may assume duties of absent employee within the department.
  • may verify funds available for a variety of financial activities within the department.
  • plan and organize assignments; collect, compile, and analyze information from various sources.
  • prepare statistical and narrative reports related to operational activity.
  • prepare activity reports as required.

  • basic mathematical principles.
  • english usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

  • modern office procedures, methods and computer equipment.

ability to:

  • work independently in absence of supervision.
  • communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • perform simple mathematical calculations.
  • type/word process at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
  • prepare, edit and proofread documents; interpret cps and department policies and procedures.
  • establish and maintain professional working relationships; maintain confidentiality of restricted information.
  • work occasional overtime or other than normal shift to meet work schedule.
qualifications

must have 3 years of paid work experience in human resources plus an associate degree in business administration, public administration, accounting, or a related field.

military education & experience evaluation
military education and experience may be substituted for college-level coursework as per ace guidelines.

subjects and weights of test sections: the selection process is worth 100% of the exam grade and consists of a written exam. The passing score will be determined after the examination by the civil service examiner with input from subject matter experts. Veteran’s points will be added to passing scores.
